Building Regional Cooperation on Energy Security in Central and Eastern Europe

Tuesday, 03 May 2011 at 12:30PM to Wednesday, 04 May 2011 at 05:30PM

Venue: Budapest, Hungary

Taking its lead from the priorities outlined in the Declaration of the Budapest V4+Summit on Energy Security (February 2010) to strengthen energy security in CEE, the conference on “Building Regional Cooperation on Energy Security in Central and Eastern Europe” shall widen the dialogue and deepen the understanding of pressing national and collective security challenges to CEE nations where energy and power are concerned. Concerns regarding energy dependency across CEE states are real. And the future of secure supply security rests in the hands of these nations concerned.

The conference on “Building Regional Cooperation on Energy Security in Central and Eastern Europe” has at its objective to firmly set in stone the notion that energy has moved far beyond a resource issue. Its pragmatic goal is to engender and catalyze deepening cooperation among nations in the region through enhanced dialogue and discussion.

The event champions the role of public-private partnerships in providing necessary financing for infrastructure development and in doing so it shall widen the scope of dialogue with energy producers and transit states to the East with the net energy consuming nations from across the CEE region. It shall underline the urgency of energy supply, transit, and country-of-origin diversification and further a deeper understanding of the multiple dimensions of energy security across civil society. In doing so it shall provide a concrete platform for information sharing and exchange for energy and power product and service providers to partner with regional entities in project design, finance, development and implementation to enhance the region’s energy supply and diversification strategies.

The conference will be jointly facilitated by the Atlantic Council of the United Kingdom and the Atlantic Council of Hungary. The Global Media Sponsor of the event is the Journal of Energy Security, a publication of the Institute for the Analysis of Global Security.
