The 3rd Annual Collaborative Border Management Conference

Tuesday, 04 October 2011 from 08:30AM to 06:00PM

Venue: The Stanhope Hotel, Brussels, Belgium

Background

This Annual Conference, organised by The British Chamber of Commerce in Belgium, now in its third year, is established as the leading forum of its kind in Brussels.

It aims to gather the border control and customs communities alongside EU and international policy makers and stakeholders, to discuss opportunities for collaboration across customs and border management agencies, particularly in the area of information sharing and how this process can support smarter and more secure borders and agencies, which ultimately facilitate trade and travel.

Collaborative Border Management, as a concept, is about engagement between regulatory authorities, border management and customs agencies, the trading community and transport and supply chain partners.  By simplifying the sharing of information between partners, supported by technology, trusted traders and travellers can avail of facilitated and more streamlined border clearance facilities, allowing customs and border agencies to focus scarce resources on higher risk individuals and cargo.

The event aims to both showcase innovative technologies and processes that can address some of the border management challenges, while also addressing the key political and policy dimensions which underpin them.

The conference will therefore set out the future policy objectives in the area of customs and border management in Europe and examine how collaborative border management, in terms of both information sharing and practical cooperation, can support the achievement of those objectives.

Over the course of the event we will look at models for information sharing and risk management being adopted in Europe and lessons learned from the implementation of customs and border management programmes globally, both in terms of inter-agency collaboration but also cooperation between agencies and trading, transport and supply-chain partners.   The conference will conclude with a look at the practical considerations of implementing collaborative border management within and between agencies and the technology and processes to support this.
