Home Office FP7 Security Information Day

Wednesday, 23 September 2009 from 09:00AM to 04:30PM

Venue: Central London (details on registration)

Background

The Home Office is holding an Information Day on the Security Call in Central London on 23 September.

The objective of this full-day event is to support and encourage UK organisations of any kind that wish to be involved in bidding for FP7 Security Theme funding.  The Home Office is inviting delegates from universities, think tanks, companies of all sizes, government and end-users from the UK and also from elsewhere in Europe, who are seeking partners from the UK to complete a bidding team.

Agenda

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Dr Andy Low, former managing director of both Roke Manor (the Siemens research & development facility in the UK) and Thales Research & Technology UK
  • Prof Paul Grasby of the Home Office and Imperial College;
  • Prof Tom Sorrell, Director of the Centre for the Study of Global Ethics, Birmingham University, who led the successful Detecter bid for FP7 funding;
  • Martin Darkins of BAE Systems, who led the recent successful SeaBilla bid in the last FP7 call;
  • Prof Adam Ogilvie-Smith of the Home Office and the Robert Gordon University
  • A speaker from the European Commission (tbc) to introduce the research call programme, describe some of the issues behind the research topics, motivations, complexities etc.

The day will also include a “forum” session, with delegates grouped together in different parts of the venue under the seven headings of the Research Call:

  • Increasing the Security of the Citizens
  • Increasing the Security of infrastructures and utilities
  • Intelligent surveillance and enhancing border security
  • Restoring security and safety in case of crisis
  • Improving security systems integration, interconnectivity and interoperability
  • Security and society
  • Security research coordination and structuring

Each forum will therefore provide a networking opportunity for people interested in the specific area, in order to focus the delegates towards people with similar interests.  Delegates will be free to move between the seven fora during these parts of the event.

Booking

There will be no charge for delegates to attend this event.   However, the Home Office expects a commitment to attend, as it will bear a cost for each delegate who requests a place.

If you wish to attend please record your details in the attached EXCEL spreadsheet file and E-Mail it to SecurityNCP@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk .

The spreadsheet requires you to provide the following information: Title; First name; Surname; Organisation; E-Mail Address; Tel (Office); Tel (Mobile); Primary Subject Interest Area; Other Subject Interest Area (please note that the information on primary and secondary areas of interest should align with the seven fora topics indicated above and will be used to help to determine the layout for the fora).
